Resting Metabolism or BMR
Your resting metabolism or BMR (Base Metabolic Rate) indicates your minimum daily caloric intake required to keep your body and organs functioning at a minimum. This is aside from normal physical activity and exercise. 60-70% of your daily energy use is your resting metabolism level.
Things that may affect your BMR is age, gender, stress, environment, temperature, muscle mass, general health...
Having a high BMR means that your body burns fuel very inefficiently. Great if you want to lose weight. This generally means that you should eat many small means during the day. Not taking in enough calories may force your body to eat away at your muscle mass.
If your BMR is very low, then you need to eat high quality foods often during the day, but at lower quantity. Your body burns fuel very efficiently, so do not over eat.
• Resting Metabolism (60%-70%): Minimum amount of energy (calories) required to keep your vital functions functioning
• Daily Activity Metabolism (20%-30%): Calories or energy required to do your normal daily activities, including work, school, driving, walking, exercise.
• Diet Induced Thermogenesis(10%): Energy used after eating a meal.
Whatever calories you intake beyond these 3 functions gets stored as fat.
